Ice Floes Response (Triptych)
Museum Langmatt, Baden, Switzerland
20 August to 10 December, 2023

Ice Floes Response, exhibited in the park at Museum Langmatt, is an homage to a painting in their collection - Ice Floes at Twilight (1893) by Claude Monet.

Back in 1893, the notion of ice melting had a romantic quality, yet now with greater awareness and severity of the global climate crisis, the concept of ice melting is alarming. It is no coincidence that this summer has been the hottest ever on record across Europe, with fires burning through the Swiss Alps, and Rocky Mountains breaking apart in some areas.

Installing this painting in the lush green gardens of Langmatt may initially appear to be poetic, rather than a warning sign for any impending disasters we face. At first glance the works are beautiful, yet on closer inspection there is a breakdown and decay taking place.
